About the Event
Come join Rabbi Barclay and the TNS community for a special evening of study in our monthly Talmud & Tobacco session. The topic will be:
"Jewish Politics: Abortion, Vaccinations, Free Will, and Other Hot Political Issues in Judaism"
Rabbi Barclay has made it a point to always keep politics off the pulpit; but with the many divisive issues facing American Jews today, he has repeatedly been asked to delve into some of the hot topics of the political world from a Jewish perspective. And so, this special Talmud & Tobacco Session will explore some of the most passionately divisive topics in current affairs from a Jewish perspective. Abortion Rights & Responsibilities; Mask and Vaccination Mandates; Anti-Semitism; Political Involvement; , Free Will; and more will be explored in this session, which promises to be lively and educational.
Although we will be discussing highly divisive issues, this teaching session is designed to bring people together. A "kahal" (sacred community) must be a place where people can safely learn and express their understandings and feelings. While there will and should be passion in the discussion of these issues, please only attend if you are willing to demonstrate respect for others. These are often divisive issues, but as Rabbi Elijah Schochet teaches, we can disagree without being disagreeable. Exploring these issues through the filter of traditional Jewish understanding can bring us all closer together; and please only attend if you are willing to really learn and truly be open to opinions different from your own as we discuss the passionate political issues facing American Jews today.
Like all programming at Temple Ner Simcha, this class is free of charge; and is open to all adults: men and women, and people of all knowledge and experience levels. Complimentary premium cigars will be provided as always, and there is a non-smoking section for those who would like to learn about the topic without being affected by the smoke.
