About the Event
Westlake Community Hanukkah Celebration at The Stonehaus this Friday
🕎
The Stonehaus and Temple Ner Simcha will be hosting the annual Westlake Village Hanukkah Candle Lighting on Friday, December 23 at 6:00pm at The Stonehaus at The Westlake Village Inn.
The celebration of lighting the community Hanukkiah for the 6th night lf Hanukkah will also include music by Jewish musical icon Shalom Sherman, who has shared his comedy and music around the world and on television for over 30 years. Prayers and teachings will be led by Rabbi Michael Barclay of Temple Ner Simcha, and is an event for the whole family.
🕎
Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights, and is both a biblical and rabbinic holiday. It is a memorial for the Patriarch Jacob as directed in the Book of Genesis over 3000 years ago, and simultaneously commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Greeks in the second century B.C.E. While many people are aware of the miracle of one day’s oil lasting eight days, the actual meaning of this metahistorical holiday according to the Talmud is to remind us all to always be willing to fight against oppression for our beliefs, values, and spirituality.
🕎
Hanukkah is also a time of joy and gathering communities together around the lights; and everyone is welcome to come celebrate the holiday at The Stonehaus on Friday, December 23 at 6:00pm
